A special exhibition commemorating the 40-year career of world-renowned soprano Sumi Jo will open this July at Artcube 2R2.

Beginning July 2, Artcube 2R2 will present Sumi Jo 40 Years of Beauty: Songs of the Four Seasons – CONTINUUM, a large-scale exhibition that traces the celebrated soprano's artistic journey through the metaphor of the four seasons. The exhibition reinterprets key moments of Sumi Jo's career through a cyclical narrative of spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

The title CONTINUUM symbolizes the uninterrupted continuity of art—its ability to evolve across generations and transcend disciplines. The exhibition is divided into four thematic chapters, each occupying a separate floor and representing a different season: spring as a symbol of beginnings and possibility, summer of passion and growth, autumn of maturity and achievement, and winter of reflection and essence.

The exhibition also features works by some of Korea's most influential modern and contemporary artists, including Yun Hyong-keun, Lee Ufan, and Kim Whanki. Through the convergence of Korean contemporary art and Sumi Jo's musical legacy, the exhibition presents a unique reflection on the cultural spirit of the past four decades. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience not only the soprano's remarkable career but also the broader evolution of Korean art during the same period.

Organized in collaboration with SMI Entertainment and directed by curator Jung Yu-rim, the exhibition incorporates a wide range of multimedia content produced by Art Token. Visitors will encounter archival materials spanning Sumi Jo's childhood, historical concert posters, footage from international performances, and AI-generated visual content inspired by her artistic legacy. Rare stage costumes, photographs, medals, and official honors will also be on display.

Following the opening, a series of artist talks will be held every other week, offering deeper insights into the works and artists featured in the exhibition. In August, Sumi Jo herself is scheduled to participate in a special session with visitors. Additional programs, including docent tours and live performances, will further enrich the exhibition experience.

Hong Ji-sook, CEO of Artcube 2R2, commented, “It is both an honor and a privilege to commemorate this historic milestone in the career of Sumi Jo, one of Korea's most distinguished cultural figures. We hope visitors will reflect on their own memories and experiences through the metaphor of life's four seasons, while discovering the profound inspiration and insight that art can offer.”

The exhibition is expected to serve as a significant cultural platform, bringing together the legacy of one of the world's leading sopranos and the artistic achievements of Korea's most celebrated contemporary masters.
